As one of Arizona’s leading cannabis attorneys, Gary Smith was a top choice to participate in a Marijuana Industry Trade Association (MITA) virtual town hall discussing the lawsuit against Arizona’s Smart and Safe Arizona Act. The initiative, which qualified for the 2020 ballot in July, would legalize adult-use marijuana in the state.

Smart and Safe Arizona submitted more than the required number of signatures — but opposition recently filed a lawsuit with the Maricopa County Superior Court alleging the measure was misleading. The panel of attorneys and industry experts offered insight on the lawsuit and how it affects legalization efforts.

As the founder and current president of the Arizona Cannabis Bar Association, Gary is frequently invited to share his expertise with professional associations and cannabis groups. He assists many clients in navigating the cannabis industry’s complex legal landscape, and authors numerous articles on cannabis law.
