Changes to cannabis and hemp regulations have created a flurry of questions for CPAs and other professionals serving the industry. Guidant is helping to bring clarity and context to pertinent issues as a sponsor of the Arizona Society of CPAs’ panel discussion, “Arizona’s Burgeoning Cannabis and Hemp Industry,” on February 11.

Our lead cannabis attorney, Gary Smith, will also serve on the panel of experts, sharing his extensive knowledge of cannabis history, applications, legal evolutions, and the present outlook. Additionally, the panel will feature a CPA, cannabis business owner, and former state regulator. They will discuss financial and operational aspects of running a cannabis business, as well as industry regulation.

Gary is at the forefront of cannabis law in Arizona. He is a founding member of the Arizona Cannabis Bar Association and serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Cannabis Chamber of Commerce. Further, he served as amici counsel to the former Director of the Arizona Department of Health Services in the Arizona Supreme Court petition State v. Jones, which restored cannabis extracts and concentrates to legal status under the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.

Guidant attorneys are regularly called upon by a range of individuals and cannabis companies for representation in state and federal courts, administrative hearings, arbitration, and litigation. They advise clients on potential risks and legal consequences, and assist with regulatory compliance. Learn more about the Guidant cannabis practice.
