Psychedelica Lex, which is now available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, Pocket Casts and Radiopublic in addition to YouTube, features engaging conversations between Gary Smith and some of the leading figures in the world of psychedelics. Gary recently interviewed attorney Nicole Howell, a founding board member of the Psychedelic Bar Association, to discuss how the organization helps address novel legal and policy issues impacting the emerging industry. The discussion takes place over two episodes.
In the first episode, Nicole discusses her background in cannabis legislation, how she was drawn to the psychedelics realm and how her experiences inform her approach with the Psychedelic Bar Association.
The second episode provides more detail on the association and its goals. These goals include providing attorneys with a way to leverage their expertise for the greater good and to connect with other professionals to share ideas, opportunities and best practices. The association’s approach and ethics are based on seven principles, such as pursuing equity and justice, and studying the social, legal and political history of psychedelics.
Nicole is an attorney and co-founder at Clark Howell LLP. Cannabis Business Executive recognized her as one of the top 75 “Most Important Women in Cannabis” and MG Magazine selected her as one of the “30 Most Powerful Cannabis Lawyers.” In addition to her work with the Psychedelic Bar Association, Nicole regularly speaks, teaches and writes on topics including cannabis and hemp law, and drug policy reform for plant medicines and other emerging therapeutics.
Gary is a preeminent legal authority on psychedelics, having authored the extensive legal manual Psychedelica Lex. He is also at the forefront of cannabis law in Arizona and is regularly called on for his expertise on ethics, agreements, litigation and other key issues in the cannabis industry. Gary’s experience in cannabis law led to his interest in psychedelics. He serves as general counsel to the nation’s oldest non-Native American peyote church.
