In the first-ever edition of LexisNexis “Arizona Marijuana Laws and Regulations 2022-2023”, the State Bar of Arizona turned to Gary Smith — a longtime leader in progressive cannabis law — to write an inaugural foreword detailing its complex policy and governance issues.

The new manual, compiled through a partnership between the State Bar of Arizona and consumer reporting agency LexisNexis, aims to make valuable legal content more accessible to attorneys statewide. The book provides an overview of the laws that govern the cannabis industry as a whole and laws relating to cannabis issues in Arizona. In the foreword, Gary contextualizes the historical development of Arizona’s cannabis story. This five-page preface providers readers with vital background information on the Arizona government’s past views and journey to its current cannabis laws.

A leading cannabis attorney in Arizona, Gary frequently shares insights for industry publications and organizations as well as local and national media. He assists cannabis clients in uncovering opportunities, overcoming challenges and navigating the cannabis industry’s complex legal landscape. He also co-founded The Arizona Cannabis Bar Association and helps support Arizona lawyers who have committed themselves to ethical excellence in cannabis-related matters through education and networking.
