Stemming from the growing legislative interest in the therapeutic uses of psilocybin, The Arizona Republic recently tapped Guidant Partner and President of the Arizona Cannabis Bar Association Gary Smith to share his insights on the newly proposed Arizona Senate Bill 1570. If passed, this initiative would legalize the use of psychedelic mushrooms in the state for medicinal purposes to treat mental health conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, addiction and more.
Gary, who is a leading cannabis and psychedelics attorney, told The Arizona Republic that the decriminalization and clinical use of mushrooms is inevitable. That said, he also weighed in on potential downsides of the bill’s passage, such as the possibility of a potential “black market” developing due to the high cost of clinically sanctioned treatments.
In addition to frequently sharing insights with industry publications and media, Gary hosts a popular podcast about psychedelics and the law, and he authored Psychedelica Lex, the preeminent legal manual for psychedelics and entheogens. He also serves as general counsel for the nation’s oldest multiracial peyote church.
