Turning to the classic musical Oklahoma! for inspiration, Gary Smith wrote an article for Psychedelics Today arguing the pharmaceutical industry (“cowmen”) and grassroots reformists (“farmers”) should join forces for mutual benefit.
The proposed Uniform Plant and Fungi Medicine Act could provide the basis for a fruitful partnership between these two opposing groups. Gary says grassroots reformists need an ally with resources to make UPFMA a reality, making it high time proponents give the pharmaceutical industry a boisterous “Howdy, Neighbor!” to establish relations. On the other hand, this legislation could help the pharmaceutical industry reduce illicit trade (catch cattle rustlers) while also expanding its market share and improving products. Cowmen and farmers needn’t compete for the pastures — in fact, a close collaboration could lead to more fertile soil and happy proverbial cows.
In an earlier article for Psychedelics Today, Gary explained why the patient-focused, science-driven UPFMA is the best path to regulation.
