The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act enacted a moratorium on eviction filings on properties financed by certain federal loan programs. Yet, as tenants’ advocates have found, up to 220 evictions in Arizona directly violated the Act. Sam Saks recently joined a special workgroup through the Arizona Commission on Access to Justice to assist Arizonans who were wrongfully evicted.
The special workgroup is responsible for collecting and consolidating eviction information to identify cases in violation of the CARES Act and notifying affected groups. Further, they will develop an online portal for current and former tenants to access information and legal resources. Finally, they will implement a public awareness campaign to help tenants identify a wrongful eviction under the Act.
Sam is no stranger to helping individuals, businesses and families navigate tough or legally complex situations. An experienced personal injury lawyer, he has negotiated millions in settlements for clients involved in accidents and commercial torts. Additionally, he founded Legal Aid of Arizona and serves as a pro tem judge in Maricopa County Superior Court.
