Lamar Hawkins is a trusted advocate for both businesses and individuals facing complex financial challenges. With decades of experience, he brings a focused, efficient, and strategic approach to every case. His practice spans all aspects of commercial and consumer debt workouts and bankruptcy law, including Chapter 11 and Subchapter V reorganization, Chapter 7 liquidation, creditor negotiations, bankruptcy-related tax issues, and financial restructuring.

Lamar is widely recognized as one of Arizona’s leading bankruptcy attorneys. He successfully confirmed the state’s first Subchapter V Chapter 11 case and was appointed again as the Chair of the State Bar of Arizona’s Bankruptcy Advisory Group for the 2025–2027 term. His deep knowledge of bankruptcy law, local procedures, and tax implications allows him to guide clients confidently through every step of the process—whether through out-of-court workouts or Chapter 7, 11, or 13 proceedings.

Throughout his career, Lamar has helped reorganize numerous business entities, including professional groups, real estate ventures, and notable transactions such as the acquisition of Great Western Produce. He has represented both majority and minority stakeholders in high-stakes negotiations and reorganizations, and has earned a reputation for achieving favorable results for individuals navigating complex personal bankruptcies, including individual Chapter 11 cases.

Before joining Guidant, Lamar was a shareholder at Aiken Schenk Hawkins & Riccardi P.C. for nearly 30 years. His work there included landmark results such as the Inselman case, where he helped limit personal liability related to unpaid business taxes.

Lamar is also committed to community service. He actively volunteers with the Arizona Volunteer Lawyers Program, offering pro bono bankruptcy support to underserved populations—a commitment that earned him recognition as Lawyer of the Month. He frequently shares his insights at legal and civic events, including State Bar presentations and community organizations.

Throughout his career, Lamar has assisted with the reorganization of numerous business entities, often serving as a pivotal negotiator. Notably, he oversaw the buyout of Great Western Produce, a regional broker of agricultural products, the reorganization of numerous doctor, lawyer, accounting, and other professional groups and organizations, and numerous real estate ventures. In the real estate sphere, Lamar has served on behalf of both the controlling and non-controlling equity ownership. Importantly, Lamar is a community leader in handling the issues for the individual who is impacted most by the financial troubles, achieving numerous individual Chapter 11 reorganizations.

Before joining Guidant, Lamar was a shareholder at Aiken Schenk Hawkins & Riccardi P.C. for nearly three decades. He was instrumental in the favorable outcomes for numerous cases, including Inselman, in which he eased “responsible person” liability for the unpaid transaction privilege taxes of a corporation and limited liability company.
